In order to familiarize with the new water resources management law, the awareness rising forum took place on December 22st, 2023 in Batumi, Shota Rustaveli State University.
The forum was held within the framework of the project – “Implementation of the Law on the Water Resources Management and Promotion of Awareness in the Municipalities of Georgia” with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Economic Governance Program and the NGO “Environment and Development”.
The primary task of the project is to support Georgian municipalities in effectively implementing the new law on water resources management and solving the challenges in the water management sector.
The Parliament of Georgia approved the new law on water resources management developed by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture in 2023. USAID supported Georgia to develop the new Water Law, which will ensure a cleaner environment by improving the accessibility and quality of water. The law envisages significant changes in the field of water resources. The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and the Environmental protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia are actively working on providing information about the new law to local governments.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the local self-governments, businesses and non-governmental sectors of the municipalities of Atchara Autonomous Republic. In addition, the meeting was attended by the USAID Economic Growth Director Michelle Koscielski, Chairperson of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee Maia Bitadze, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Nino Tandilashvili, and other members of the Parliaments.
