Within the framework of February 19-29, 2024, consultation meetings were held in 10 regional centers of Georgia with local stakeholders to assess their knowledge, capabilities and needs regarding the issues of management of green and recreational municipal spaces, as well as – regarding the changes provided for in the spatial planning, architectural and construction code of Georgia. The meetings covered more than 60 municipalities and 255 people. The meetings were attended by representatives of the architecture, development, supervision, legal and procurement services of the municipalities, representatives of the city council working in the mentioned direction, as well as construction companies and organizations interested in the arrangement of recreational spaces. As a result of the meetings, the needs that municipalities have in terms of planning and implementing activities in compliance with the Code were identified.
The mentioned meetings were carried out within the framework of the project “Development of landscaping standards for green and recreational spaces” implemented by the non-governmental organization “Environment and Development”, with the active support of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee of the Parliament of Georgia and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The project is implemented with the funding of the United Nations Development Program and the support of the Norwegian government, within the framework of the “Leadership, Equality, Advocacy and Democracy” program.
The goal of the project is to prepare management standards for the planning of green and recreational spaces and to integrate issues of urban greening in the process of giving construction permits, according to the changes made in 2023 in the Spatial Planning, Architectural and Construction Code of Georgia.
